HOW DOES SOUND HEALING WORK?

Sound can help to shift our brainwave states, by using methods of entrainment, such as binaural beats or isochronic tones. Likewise, brainwave entrainment can be used to synchronize our brainwaves. This makes it possible to quickly shift our normal, alert, waking beta brainwave state, to a relaxed meditative alpha state.

Furthermore, sound can even induce an even deeper theta meditation, and deep delta sleep, where the body can heal itself.

Sound therapy is both passive, and participatory.  Passive means you become consciously relaxed. You lay down, close your eyes, and consciously slow and deepen your breath. It’s in this state of relaxation, you will participate, by opening up, and becoming consciously aware of each sound. The sound itself will help to create the mental pathways to help deepen this relaxation. This is the same way a mantra can help you arrive at a state of meditation.

Various chants frequencies rich in overtones, stimulate our brain, revitalize our cognitive functions, also awaken consciousness-inducing concentration and sharpening the capacity for self-awareness.

Our ears also house the vestibular system, the unifying system in our brain in charge of orienting us in space and time, enabling us to stand upright, to know the difference between up and down, left and right, forward and backward. A healthy vestibular system is essential to how we orient ourselves in the world and provides the foundation for all higher cognitive functions such as reading, writing and thinking. -Silvia Nakkach MA, MMT
